Hi guys. I am just getting back into my hobby of PC building after 5 years! Been travelling a lot (job requires it) and for now, I'm settled in Kent. Wanted your opinion on building an HTPC. Primary use is HiFi and gaming at acceptable frame rates, not everything maxed out. Im building another PC for that. This one'll serve my needs till I find a permanent place to settle. Any advice? Max budget is £600. I have a WD Green 1.5TB HDD and a Samsung 830 256gb ssd. Rest, i'll order. Any advice would be welcome.

Hey :D

Couple of le questions:

Do you have speakers already? will it be going through an AV Receiver of sorts?

What do you need?
OS?
Monitor?
Peripherals?
or just "the box"?

Hey hey!

I am more of a headphones guy. Senns HD650 and HD800. At the moment, I am in a house share so have to limit the noise. Im planning on dropping money on the HDVD800 connected to the HTPC. Im using a Dragonfly as a DAC but will upgrade that when I earn a bit more :) The £600 is for the box only.

A HDVD800, I hate you :p

This would play games at a fair pace, if you want one and an OS you'll have to chop down the GPU by quite a bit.
No optical drive though:

From an dragonfly £200+ dac to an HDVD800 1.5k dac ?

:)

Must listen to too much music ;)

You mentioned your in a shared house, wont your Senns be open sound and then leaking whatever music/movies etc out to the rest of the house and street ?

BF4 @ 3am, people are going to dial 999 lol

Perhaps a good idea to invest in some closed back headphones like AKG 550s which isolate and seal noise pretty good, other choices out there also.

Sounds to me you would with the money your considering spending register and re-ask this question on headfi forums, the audiophiles main hang out. Those guys would know plenty on dacs and setups.
