Sorry...no pics yet....

Just to let those interested in knowing that there has been amber activity detected by Aurorawatch in Lancaster University (linky for description of levels)

Means there is a very high probability (clear skies dependant) that it will be visible in the north of the UK and well up in Scotland.

Am a wee bit excited as is one of the things I have always wanted to see and photograph and being up here in Aberdeen means I may be in with a chance tonight.

Now just have to figure out where to go to try and get the best pics.....hoping for clear skies too.....

Will post up if I manage to get any pics.

The main issue you'll have is the length of the day - luckily the nights are closing in, so it should get dark enough for you... if they make a show.

I've caught them from Northumberland, and St Abbs Head a number of times. Don't assume that you need to "look North" - of course you do, but they can also appear in the NW, and NE as well as a comlete band from side to side.

Depending on the strength, you may have to look right on the horizon, or they may appear higher in the sky. Don't expect the greens and purples with the naked eye - it will appear as a "mist". However, with a camera on 800+ ISO with a long shutter speed, it will come out green on the photo.

Here's a link to my best photo so far..
