Hello,

I'm after a player that play's midi's as they should:

I have OpenTTD with the original TTDLX soundtrack, but if I download the midi's they sound quite a lot different.
Same for battletoads music from NES, sound much different in wmp than in the game.
And also Commander keen music, I still play it in dosbox as I have it on steam and there it sounds fine, but the tones in the midi's while playing in WMP are off from the actual game music.

Is there an app that properly plays midi's without making them sound **** :) compared to in the games that it's from ?

Basically no - midi files are similar to vector graphics - it describes how a sound should be played - velocity, volume, pitch and so on. How the sound is generated is down to your playback system - for you it's likely to be using the in-built MS Wavetable synth, dosbox sounds like it has it's on in-built system.

That's because when you playback the midi file it doesn't use the same synth engine as it did in the game.

You're better off just recording the audio from the game and keeping it as mp3.
