I'm autoclocking the set up as in my sig.

For the last 4 years I've been running a 2.8 northy at 10% OC (3.08ghz) no problem. If I try to go to 15% the PC crashes in Windows and reboots.

I've recently bought a 3.0 northy thinking I will auto OC at 10% giving me 3.3ghz. Fitted the 3ghz runs lovely and cool and will happily run at 5% OC but if I increase to 10% the pc crashes in Windows.

Any ideas why I can't autoclock the 3ghz northy at 10%? Is it this particular CPU ( SL6WK ) or is the problem elsewhere?

Well I decided to put in another 3ghz northy ( SL6WU ) and that runs happily at 10% oc'd at low 50s temp. So some P4s are better than others!

i have to ask why "autooverclock"?
surely if you can up the % you have some understanding as to how to overclock?

My P4P800 allows me to choose 5% 10% 15% etc in BIOS and does the rest automatically! So I don't need to understand.

1st thing, stop buying new P4's if thats what your doin, its not worth it ! they will all probably clock to and over 3.4 (about the limit of northwoods) if you start clocking things properly, selecting a % thing in the bios is the WORST way to overclock (never works well !) so the 'i dont need to understand attitude will get you no where. You need to play with the mem timings, cpu ratios, FSB and tweak voltages, once you find a good balance it will work properly.............99% guarantee you will clock a lot higher than auto overclock pap

In short there is no short cut, you got to put in the effort and time to find what will work best, see the FAQ for a guide to overclocking

joroma:

I used the same mobo as you have with a P4 3.4GHz N/wood, with 1GB OCZ PC3200 Platinum rev2, was able to O/C it to just under 3.8GHz, however, I never used the % increase utility that you are using, as CombatS has stated it does not work well, you need to

You need to play with the mem timings, cpu ratios, FSB and tweak voltages...

I ran a FSB:Ram of 1:1, some other divider might work better for you.

A read at This basic guide should help. :)

uhoh,

Even just boldly raising the fsb works bettert han the completly worthless auto overclockign options, stop using it and read a guide how to properly overclock instead, the auto overclocking options always set your ram settings way too high.
