Hi

Can anyone tell me the difference between paying for Divx Pro and using freeware like Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK) to produce a Divx movie?

Would it be legal to use AutoGK for educational / business use?

Cheers :)

From my understanding Auto Gordian is just a front end. Without divx pro installed, you wont able to produce Divx files with Auto Gordian.

Xvid codec is free and much better option anyway

Well I've got AutoGK installed on my pc and just the free Divx playback software and it will allow me to make a Divx file so that's why I was wondering.

What would be the best way of compressing DVDs onto a school network without having to install playback software on each client machines - ie it will play with MS Media Player?

Windows Media Player is rather limited right out of the box. I think you're stuck with WMV. if you happen to have the Zune version installed you could make use of the excellent H.264 codec, using x264 to encode on your end, with the .avi container.

Might have a look at getting VLC out to the client machines then.

Can you confirm whether or not AutoGK is legal regarding making Divx files though?
