Hi guys.

I don't know whether this is the right sub section but here goes.

At the moment I have my gmail account set up so that it retrieves emails from my university account and automatically labels them as 'university'. What I also want do do is to have any email that aren't university email (everything else) labeled as something different.

I want this because when I am viewing my inbox I can see emails from both university and my general emails which can get a bit hectic so an option to see emails labeled 'General' only would be handy.

Is this possible?

Cheers.

On the rule you've set up for uni emails, you can select the "skip inbox" option, so that they no longer appear in the inbox, but under the "university" label only. Is that what you mean?

Why not tell GMail to skip the inbox for mails that have been labelled University ... then other mails will show in the inbox normally and the new emails for University will be accessibly from the University label on the left of the interface ... in fact you can turn on the multiple inbox feature and have it display your main inbox normally and a secondary inbox of unread mails with the University label.

Aren't the settings for labels for another account separate to the settings for labels for Gmail? I.e. aren't there two settings in Gmail for labels? One for emails going straight to your Gmail account and one for imported email from a checked/monitored account?

Been messing with Google Apps for the school I work at and I'm pretty sure there's something like that set up so you can easily distinguish between the emails.

I've only got one section for label configuration ... are your thinking of filters as well? With the filters you can get it to auto add labels to mail sent to another account you are collecting things from and set it to skip the inbox, be marked as read and never be sent to spam ... etc ...

Create a new filter ... in the first screen define what you are filtering on, e.g. set the To: field to your university email address, then click the create filter link. This then gives a second screen of options where skipping the inbox is one of them.

Hmm I must be. :o

Thanks. I now have it set up exactly as I want it :D

Cheers.
