Hi,

Just been doing Windows Updates on a new laptop and one of the updates has created a new XP account (Some .net thing or other) - Whilst I could delete it I really don't mind leaving it there... It's not causing me any issues ----- Well other than one...

Now when I turn the laptop on I have to select my XP account (My name)... Is there anyway I can get Windows to automatically log me into my account (It has no password on it).

Many Thanks.

Dan.

Run windows update and install all the updates to .NET 1.1. From what I've noticed, it was fixed in a later update.

Re-installed it to make sure and the Service Pack defo doesn't fix it for me... Tried the first method on that website and initiallity it hasn't worked however that may be due to me rushing so will have another go...

Any other ideas why it isn't working the Service Pack way?

Dan.

EDIT - Sorted using Method 1 on the website. Many Thanks :d :d - Still... Unsure why the Service Pack didn't do it...

Do not delete the .Net account, believe it or not it creates it for a reason.

Start > Run > "control userpasswords2" and untick "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Then fill in the details of the default account.

You may want to set an account password before doing this though, so you benefit from auto-login but still have to enter a password to set a password (so nobody can lock you out of your own account), access shares etc.
