Hello,

I got a little problem here with my Mini-Laptop.

It boots up to the Log on screen fine, I click on my user name and it says Loading settings under my user name like normal, then it says saving settings followed by logging off and it stays on the log on screen, I cant get past this point, it does the exact same in safe mode also,

Any ideas, as I'm lost.

Thanks
Chris

Probably spyware, corrupted or removed your userinit.exe in system32.

Boot into Windows Recovery Console from a Windows CD or your bootable command line of choice and copy a fresh or a known good of userinit.exe from a working machine back into windows\system32. Let me know if you want a copy hosted.

Should fix this problem, if not you need to get into the registry and check some Keys, can walk you through this if the above does not work.

Ok, I've been trying to solve this for a few days now with no Success, I can't access windows or the hard drive in any way to replace the affected file.

I am now trying to reinstall Windows, but they give you Windows on a Cd then tell you to buy an External Cd-Rom drive to install it with, I have been trying to get the Notebook to Boot from a Usb pen drive but i'm having no luck. I have been following many guides I have fond about setting up a bootable Usb stick and putting windows on the stick to install it from but with no luck.

Does anybody know what I can do, I'm totally lost.

Thanks
Chris

Just to check have you tried to boot into the last kniown good config? press F8 when machine is booting into Windows and you should be able to choose the option

It may also be worth performing a system restore if you have this enabled to restore your config to a point prior to the issues occuring.

My advice would be to create something like a Vista PE bootup USB drive, you can then boot your machine to the USB boot disk into the Vista PE environment and use the tools in here to try and fix the problem. Vista PE can be run regardless of what O/S you have installed, it's a self contained mini O/S.

Client can be had here:

http://www.vistape.net/

It comes with a lot of things you can use to try to fix your machine, you can copy files from the USB thumb drive to the local hard disk etc and even edit the registry, along with a multitude of applications.

Once you have formatted the USB thumb disk and made a bootable USB drive out of it just choose the boot up menu option when you turn the laptop on and choose the USB drive.

The machine restarting is likely to do with something running on system boot up so you may want to check your startup registry configs, it could also be getting caught up with something running post login, it may even be something stupid like you have a virus or malware that has enabled a scheduled reboot task in Windows.

Also you forgot to mention which O/S you have running
