Hi im using the auto tuning feature on my new build i made today and it says

"congratulations you have increased 4.3ghz"

up from 3.3ghz but when i press ok i do windows key + pause to get up system and it still says @ 3.30ghz

what am i doing wrong?

i have p8z68 board and i5 sandy bridge 2500k

Don't worry about what that page says. That's just the CPU ID.

Load CPU-Z or something similar and then give the CPU something to do and that should tell you what your OC is. :)

Here's my i7-2600k @ 4GHz. The Windows system info page still says @ 3.40GHz, as does the CPU-Z specification line.

Thanx mate

it says 4327.1 mhz but sometimes it changes to 1645.1 ghz then changes back to 4.3mhz+ or soemthing liek that is that normal?

my temps only 28c too with corsair water cooling :D if this is overclocked then thats awesome

That's Intel SpeedStep changing the CPU speed to meet demand. Perfectly normal. It should idle at about 1.6GHz and then ramp up to whatever you've set the maximum to be at 100% load (4GHz in my case).

Just a heads up, I have the same board as you, and though it ramped my CPU up to 4.4ghz, it also dropped my memory speed, so in the end I had to go into the EFI Bios and change everything my self anyhow, everything stable on a 2600k @ 4.4ghz, blk100x44, 1.29v, load temps of 48'c, vengeance @ 1600mhz.

Interesting.

I'm using the XMP profile and my memory's set manually at 1600.

Could you not install all this ASUS windows based AI SUITE II bloat ware and just OC via bios??? I have the z68-v pro mobo
You don't have to install AI Suite II at all. I did when I first built the system but after using it for a while I decided that I preferred tweaking the BIOS and then monitoring/testing with things like CPU-Z and HWInfo. :)

I just installed it to see what it could do, but yeah it dropped my XMP profile, dropping the memory speed with it, taking it down to 1400mhz. So bottom line, just check everything after if your using an automated OC'ing tool, like the AI suite II.

Its actually not a bad application, it lets you perform some level of customization such as auto-update's of the bios, and bios image changing etc...its not bad to have to play around with

Right ok if I don't install AI SUITE II what else can I do without on drivers side not utilities cos im not installing any utilities from the disk and just out of intreast is the norton Internet security full version or trial?

I would bet its a trial, though i wouldn't be willing to install it to find out lol.

I'll fire up my install disc later today and see what I did/didn't install and get back to you.

I downloaded the full set of drivers from the Asus site and then added them one by one until there were no more exclamation marks in Device Manager.

Here is the list of extracted folders I have on my PC from the install:
ASM_USB3_V1450_Windows
Marvell_V1001045_XPVistaWin7
JMB36X_V117582_XpVistaWin7
Intel_AHCIRAID_V10501022_XPVistaWin7
Intel_Graphics_V815102321_VistaWin7
Intel_Chipset_V9201021_Windows
IntelMEI_V7001144_Windows
Intel_LAN_V15600_XpVistaWin7

Hmm I thought I had installed everything but in device manager I still have these as unrecognised:

PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM BUS Controller
USB Controller
USB Controller

I presume the USB controller ones are directly related to USB 3.0, but any idea on the other two?

Edit: I installed from disc using the Asus instALL option.

I can't remember exactly as I installed them individually but I *think* the SM BUS Controller is part of the IntelMEI install (this may also have taken care of the PCI Simple Communications Controller).

Sorry that's a bit vague but, as I said, I did the driver install differently to you, the way I always do it: I went to each device with an exclamation mark and then browsed to the extracted folders I listed until there were no more exclamation marks.

Right I got the PCI SCC to disappear by reinstalling 'Engine Management Interface'

Reinstalling the ASmedia USB 3.0 drivers shifted the two USB controller flags.

And reinstalling the chipset drivers removed the SM BUS flag.

The last time I take the 'cheap' method of installing drivers :-(
