I am a little confused by all the different versions of Autocad.

No matter which version you have is it possible to design the same thing?

Ie if you make something on Autocad 2008, can you open and edit it in 2008 Architecture.

Autocad uses DWGs but it is possible to convert these drawings to dwf which can be read by many different programmes.

The different versions of autocad are tailored to different tasks . You can draw whatever you want in vaniilla autocad though as all it is is an electronic drawing board. The diffenent packages just add features to make your life easier. I used to use 2D autocad for my job btw.

I just use AutoCad 2008 full blown version. There are also tailered 2008 packages (AutoCad Mechanical, Electrical etc etc). Save file as DWG file which should open on all versions.
