Just asking you autocad users out there about resellers and the costs.

Currently using AC2000 so no chance of an upgrade path from this one but I am asking who might be the best reseller to goto to get a 'recent' version of AC (by that I mean I can do with one that is a few years old)

I mainly do plans and dimensional drawings with occasional 3D work

Cadline, or Excitech or AutoDesk directly!...

Full on AutoCad 2010 (don't think you can buy an older version anymore) is about £2750/licence.

If you use AutoCad at work you can legally install the software at home and 'borrow' the licence by either using the 'Licence Export' wizard, or Dial in to you work server and pick it up that way (thats what I do)!!...

Or get a student copy. After all they government do keep suggesting people go back to college and a part time course easily pays for itself in cheap software :)

Surely being a professional who earns a living off the software then breaking the copyright law for a few quid isn't worth it.

Autodesk products cost an arm and a leg :( but then if you haven't brought one since 2000 surely buying 2010 would be cheap if you get 9-10 years use out of it as a planner then it would pay for itself.

Hmmm even trying to bend the rules when working for a FTSE 100 manf company (even if it is just a small plant in one of the many divisions) just isn't going to cut the mustard.

I do about 95% 2D and 5% 3D, and only do the 3D stuff because I can with AC2K. I doubt I can justify the £3K price tag against £600 for LT.

I thought you could still get older versions from resellers? I've been in contact with a few and I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

AutoCAD is vastly over priced! most resellers wont have older versions as Autodesk are trying to move everyone to 2009 or above. You maybe able to pick up a copy of the bay second hand, but if you really need autocad then you have to weigh up that you will use it enough to warrant its cost.
