Is anyone doing this at the moment? Just wondering how anyone is going about fully automating deployments, whether it be with PowerCLI or some 3rd party software?

I'm starting to look at doing it for a few of our builds that we use on a regular basis so just wondering what approaches work well and are worth looking into.

Cheers!

Doesn't VMWare Enterprise support policy based provisioning of VMs? (and storage for that matter)

Not used it myself but I've seen it on the feature list.

What hypervisor? You want to use templates and then powershell scripts for standard provisioning... if you are hooked up to a decent SAN you could see if the manufacturer has any rapid provisioning facilities

This is with vmware vsphere 4.0 at present. I'd started looking at templates and powercli so shall keep on down that route I think.

Cheers!

Cool - PowerCLI is just powershell with the VMware cmdlets imported. It's defiantly the way to go :) Lots of examples on the web if you do a search.
