Automatic drive cloning (software raid?)

Just got a 2nd 3tb drive to backup my original drive attached to my N54L.

How I'd like things to work:

Internal 3tb used for writing/reading etc.
External 3tb drive is a clone of the internal drive through an automated daily/weekly process.

The external drive will be removed frequently when I go away with work.

I've had a look around, almost got it sorted last night with driveimage xml, until it stumbled over the internal drive being a GPT drive and teh external being MBR (Not sure how I managed that with it being larger than 2tb).

Any advise, i'm using Server 2012 so it needs to be compatible (another stumbling block I experienced). Is there any capability within windows to do this?

Just use Windows Server Backup to create a system image on a schedule?

You can restore from it by using a windows installation disk/usb.

Do you need it be an actual "clone", i.e. complete image copy of the main disk so that you could swap it in and boot from it for example, or is copying the data off the drive sufficient?

If it's a disk image, then you need something like Macrium Reflect, or Acronis Trueimage, and because it's for a Server OS you will have to pay for it.

If it's just data backup, then either Windows Backup, or a Scheduled Task and Robocopy can Mirror the current data/file structure.

Veeam Endpoint - Free and can backup entire volumes for easy restore. This has the added benefit of allowing restore points in case you need to go back in time for older files etc.

This is much nicer to use than Windows Server Backup as well.

I didn't think this was free for Servers?
