Automatic gearbox problem? or not?

I've got a Honda accord 2.0 98-02 with an automatic gearbox, and in the last 4-6 weeks or so i've noticed that it seems to be a little less responsive in the first few minutes of driving while cold, and on pretty rare occasions it can jolt forward when the gear changes down unexpectedly if i'm not being cautious.

Although, after about 2-3 minutes of driving and the engine begins to warm up, it acts completely as normal and is spot on regardless of how long i drive thereafter. I'd say it does seem to make a difference when its VERY cold like at the moment but i noticed it a bit before all this snow also.

Is there a problem? or? :)

Its not that i can't live with it and its a minor thing but i'm a little worried if it got any worse.

The only thing i can think of is that it did seem to begin just over a month ago once i ran my car battery flat accidentally, but its just as likely that it has no connection to this at all...the only really consistant thing is that it'll be more noticable when its VERY cold. Theres certainly no signs of any problem whatsoever once i've been driving for 3 minutes ish and sometimes theres no problem at all at any point.

Any ideas what it might be or anyone having similar probs?

I've checked all oil pressures etc for everything and its all totally spot on, so no leaks.

what colour is the fluid ?
should be close to a nice cherry red, if its getting on for brownish black then it needs changing.
it usually manifests itself by holding onto gears longer than usual and indecisive changes.
i must say mine has been a bit weird in this weather also but ive been using torque convertor lock out for most of my journeys

IIRC there were problems with the gearboxes in these cars that lead to them being replaced FOC even when well out of warranty. Depends how bad it is though I guess

I'll have a nosey at the colour shortly :)

I had it serviced 6 months ago though which included that so seems unlikely :(

Got any links for that btw howard?

could be the ATF really doesn't like cold temps and is quite thick from a cold start. On mine, when started from cold it doesn't change up to second till around 2000rpm, this kinda force the ATF fluid to warm up quicker.
