I'd say manual, at least then you can find a happy medium of noise and performance that suits you.

What is the fan on? HSF auto as would be pita to keep changing all the time. GPU custom profiles to try and keep the noise down while not gaming. Rad fans manual as can keep them really low for normal use and up couple hundred rpm when needed easily.

Automatic works better for me as I always forget to twiddle the controller for intensive use and end up overheating. The fans I have on my manual controller are basically just stuck at the same balanced speed and all other fans, CPU, GPU and rear are PWM controlled.

All the fans I want to connect up are case fans. CPU, GPU are PWM controlled.
