This seems to be more of a common problem that I would have guessed.

I resurrected a friend's old laptop (new batter and an SSD). It was released with Windows 7 but installed 10 instead, installation went fine. However I had issues on the first Windows loading but I have lost count of how many times there has been some sort of issue with 'just a moment'. Anyway it installed and the laptop ran fine. Took it round to my fiance's, connected to her WiFi and closed it rather than shut down.

She turns it on later that day and it throws the automatic boot repair at her. We have tried every single option to resolve but each one fails. My guess is Windows is corrupted or it's the HD.

There's a twist though. A friend of mine with a different laptop, a few months old had exactly the same problem just happen to her. And like the other one - none of the solutions work. I don't mind installing Windows again with the first laptop as it was given to me but much more reluctant to do so on the second one until I have exhausted all my options.

My question is - does any one have a clue as to what could have caused this? It could be a coincidence but boy what timing.

have you
disabled the fast boot mechanisms - pre-loading dlls+files into memory.
disabled win 10 hybrid sleep modes
or, is it mis-guidedly installing driver updates, or a driver problem in general where a driver fails to respond to sleep events.

A dodgy update could be it because my machine would have certainly been updating due to it been a new install. Can all the things you mention be done in the BIOS as that's the only thing I can get into.

The friends' laptop appears fixed. Reinstalled Windows, left it for hours to complete updating (and to see if the problem happened again) and seems fine. Will give it a few days.
