Hi All, just need some confirmation before i buy this card. Basically because Creative no longer support its own Inspire 5700 speaker set which uses its proprietary digital din i can only use it with the audigy 2 :( the Inspire 5700 only have analog for Front and Rear and none for Centre or Sub.

now i been reading up on Dolby® Digital Live and DTS® Interactive and if i'm to understand, I can simply connect the Prelude to my 5700 via the Optical Line and be able to get the full surround sound including the sub and centre speaker when playing games, movies and music?

Also why is one selling them anymore?

Thanks in advance.

What OS you using, under Vista it's only Dolby Digital Live atm, can be a little flakey but yet just plug it into your speakers with 1 optical cable and you are away.

thanks, I was going to buy the add on X-tension card but seems din does not workk properly with the Prelude, good thing DDL came along.
I'm using XP atm but the the website says:

Dolby® Digital Live for XP and Vista
DTS® Interactive for Vista

just need to find a place that sells it.

Ive got the Prelude and was under the impression to actually make use of the sound card you need to pass sound over analogue as it does all the decoding/encoding (using its lovely parts) whereas using SPDIF would mean your connected sound system would and makes the sound card useless (why people say if you are using SPDIF onboard sound is fine).

Am I totally wrong here and if so please correct me! Want to use the card to the best of its abilities...

Ive going to set it up so it has analogue to a set of Z5400s which obviously can take optical/coax but Id rather use that for consoles...

If you're just after DDL and not analogue quality there's no point in getting a Prelude.

This would do: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Titanium Fatal1ty Pro 7.1 Sound Card - Retail

As would this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Sound Card (Low Profile Compatible) - Retail (my recommendation)

or this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ame=Asus Xonar D2 7.1 PCI Sound Card - Retail

Also look up the Xonar D1. Unfortunately they're not sold on OCUK yet.

I went for the X-Fi Titanium in the end, but will be buying the logitech z5500 before xmas. i've not installed the sound card yet as i'm waiting for my optical cable to arrive.

yep your right with analog the card's Dac does the work where as with digital your external decoder does the job, what i read is cards tend to have a better Dac than decoders, thats why people stick with analog.

Cool thought it made sense and I spent the extra for the Prelude so want to make sure Im using that quality and the DDL features. Since Im not interested in Blu Ray or HD-DVD on my PC those new HDMI/HDCP PCIe cards dont interest me so Im hoping the Prelude is a worthwhile more long-term investment..

Only a few years before I get an Onkyo and then Ill be using SPDIF ;)
