Hey folks,

Thinking of treating myself soon to a new tv/home cinema setup.

Currently have the 606 with a Kuro Plasma - still a lovely tv so holding off for a while but kinda missing out on the smart tv world and 4k fun. Closest I've gotten is plugging a chromecast into one of the inputs.

Was looking at the LG 55" oled panel so figure the av amp will need an update to handle the video.

Would the Pioneer VSX-831-B be ok for this and capable of all the bells and whistles? Seems relatively inexpensive for the features it has at around £280? Worried it's got a glaring feature missing that I'll be kicking myself about.

Are there better options at around that price point?

Don't really want to be paying a huge amount more if it can be helped.

Cheers!

Don't pay for extras you don't need.

Generally the go-to budget choice is the Denon x1300w or x2300w. Both of these can be had for 350 or less, though the 2300 is hard to come by (by all accounts).

Ordered a 2300 in the end. Store then rang up saying they'd run out of stock so knocked a further £50 off the 2400. Went with that!

Now to see about some atmos speakers... (oh, and fix my old sub which I think has dodgy capacitors on it's psu - if you don't hear back I've blown my head off).

it is fantastic but its EOL now. Just upgraded my speakers after such a long long time and after running audyssey to balance them up again I cant believe the incredible sound I've been missing out on after my hotch potch setup. Okay I've still got a bit of a hotch potch mix but its amazing what a better centre and front l/r speakers make. Must admit though upward firing atmos speakers are okay but nothing startling. Bit of a catch 22 ceiling speakers would be the best but then again not everyone can fit them or have the necessary gumption.

Yeah, couldn't get it but got some money off a 2400 so went with that. Very good but the Airplay is a bit sketchy - doesn't always play any sound!

Yah, looking if ceiling speakers are a possible in my flat. Not meant to hang anything as it's just a thin plasterboard roof, will need to check how big the cavity is above it too...
