AV Receiver - Complete N00b help with setting up please

I'm completely new to all of this.

I picked up my Marantz SR4200 yesterday.

Fitted it nicely on my shelf.

Read the manual and got a bit confused :D

I'm using a Marantz Learning Remote so everything it says to do in the book is different to what the remote i'm using has lol.

So i've put the optical cable from my HDA X-Mystique sound card to the optical digital port 1 on the AV Receiver.

Looking at the manual it says that i have to select the digital source.

So i go into the digital ports menu on the receiver and it asks me to select what type of source it is.

VCR1/MD/DVD/DSS/TAPE/TUNER

I don't see computer or anything on there so what do i select?

The optical in on that is set up for DVD but you can change it through the menu. Access the menu through the button on the front of the unit. If your still strugling I can pop round and sort it out for you later :)

If you've changed it then I use DSS for my PC and thats fine, it has no effect on the decoding apart from what it reports as the input on the display

Thats half the fun setting it up right!
You are doing the easy bit atm.

Next you have to get your tape measure out and see how far your
sat from each speaker ;)

Im sure you will be impressed with the results, it took me a few days
and a few films to get it set up just how i want it, atm its perfect :)

Its going to take him longer than that he hasn't go any speakers yet LOL

I have had my SR4200 for about 2 years now and I still tweak the odd settings every couple of months. Don't ask me why, the kit doesn't really get moved or the setup change at all. lol.
