AV Receiver
Hey

I posted a few months back about sorting out the sound on my LED TV and again I was hoping for some feedback on what im planning to do....

I am almost certain I want to buy an AV receiver with HDMI in and out, I would then plug my ps3 into the receiver and my sky would have to use phono cable to and from the receiver.
Ill then buy a set of 5.1 speakers and hook them up to the receiver....win win?

I would imagine ill have great sound for a cost just a little over £300!

The AV receiver im thinking of is a Yamaha RXV371 http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ama-rxv371-blk

Anyone got any feedback or advise before I dive in a buy this!

Cheers

That Yamaha is £229 at the moment but if your budget is £300 then I'd choose the Onkyo TXNR509 although that's just my own preference based on the kind of quality and sound I prefer!

It has 4x HDMI in and 1x Out for the TV.

If you have a Richer Sounds near you then just walk in and ask for a demo. You can very much spend ours just demoing stuff in there and they're happy to sit there watching/listening with you. Friendly folks!

It's worth finding out what their warranty is, RS have a decent warranty scheme where you pay 10% of the cost of the product for extended warranty and if you never have to use the service then after the period is over you can get that 10% back - I thought that was pretty cool.

I agree the Onkyo does look good....I like the fact its also got LAN.

Im not sure I can push paying £300 for the receiver alone because I have to buy some decent speakers to go with it.....its worth thinking about tho thanks

Hello :) I don't want to go over £350 really.....

LED tv's need sound kits imo, I am using an old 2.1 PC speaker set at the moment via headphone jack and its.....poor.

oh believe me, its not just limited to led tv's - my plasma is awful :p

I'd second the 509, a great spec for the price though i would have to hear one first, but on paper at least it looks brilliant.

Have you thought about 2nd hand? With all the manufacturers bringing out new ranges every year with only minor updates and many people having to have the latest shiny shiny you can get some very good slightly older kit very cheap. I recently saw a Denon AVR1910 sell for less than £130. I paid £500 for mine less than 2 years ago and I'd wager it would be vastly superior to any current £300 receiver (in sound quality terms). Plenty of Onkyo 606's and 607's for £150 to £200.

The only thing you might miss is the 3D ready label, but I'm not entirely sure if a receiver needs to be 3D ready if it just passes the Video through. I might be wrong on the last bit so if 3D is important don't buy on my say so :/

I'd say go second hand aswell. Few suggestions:

Denon 1909/1910
Onkyo 606/607
Marant NR1501
Yamaha RX-V557/667

Speaker wise you should be left with roughly £150-200 - I'd suggest looking out for the Mordaunt Short Premier 5.1 Kit. Fantastic Little speakers.

Thanks for all the advice, I will look into what you have all said while at work today.

Second hand isnt a bad idea.....I should check ebay out etc.

I bought a Yamaha RX-V667 from RS a couple of Months ago for £249. Great amp, loads of inputs and very good sound. For the money it's a bargain.

Yeah I did look on richer sounds and seen that it was £300 so thought you might have know some secret shop that sells things cheap! :D

I think it still a good price at £300 plus if you sign up for their VIP 'club' you get a £10 off voucher.

Yeah 100% but im just not sure I can afford to spent so much on just the received when I have to folk out on speakers as well :P

Thing is the system is going in my bedroom at the moment so its going to be to much for a small room but im buying it so I have it when I move out too.
