AV stuff situated at an angle - how to use remotes?

I intend to place all our AV stuff in a bookcase so it's out of the way and not cluttering the place up. The bookcase is at a right angle from the tv so the question pops up of how to control the devices via their remotes...?

Am I stupid for thinking that placing a mirror to reflect the beams will be sufficient? I did a quick test and it seemed to work kinda? Or are their any other methods to buy or build to achieve a 100% success rate?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

An IR repeater sounds like what you might be after. Basically it will have a receiver which would be placed on your TV and then an emitter which you could have facing your AV gear... As the name suggests it will repeat any IR signal it recieves. I have never tried one so cannot comment on what to look for specifically.
