AV1 decoding

I have a Amlogic kodi box, 905x3 chipset and trying out a AV1 file it's slow and not in time with the audio. It could just be a bad file- but it works fine on a ryzen 7 laptop.

I don't have any other AV1 files.

I'll keep a track of video playback this is first time I've experienced issues.

What new chipset is supported in coreelec? Just in case of future proofing.

The homatics box r 4k plus is one of the more
popular ones.

It has support for av1 and all Dolby vision profiles.

Only negative is coreelec can’t be installed fully on the emmc. You need to have usb plugged in all the time.

What do you use coreelec for? Local files or streaming add ons like fen?

If it’s streaming then you could just get a ugoos am6b+. No av1 but there’s barely anything out there on movies, tv shows etc.

If it’s local files then it’s obviously a different recommendation as the ugoos am6 doesn’t support av1.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of test AV-1 content around to actually try - high bitrate anyway. I haven't got any AV-1 files.

Not 100% sure on support for chipsets, some don't have hardware AV-1 decoding, which could prove to be problematic in future, but you could do a lot worse than having a quick look at the thread over at the CoreELEC forums: Best device for Coreelec in 2024

There is also a large discussion over on AVS, but that also covers other players like Dune, etc.

As far as player options are concerned, it seems that a lot of the choices come down to Dolby Vision support, or rather not. If you're not bothered about support (full or some sort of tone mapping) for DV, then you have a lot more options.

Quick search shows that chipset doesn't support AV-1, I would need to update to 905x4.

Not enough files yet to make the product unusable so will keep eye on how it progresses.

Display is LG C9 so would want HDR support.
