I set up my new PC yesterday (VERY impressed btw ;))

Now I installed Avast! AV after numerous recommendations. It updated fine and all seems peachy but it quite regularly stops 2 things.

"DCOM Exploit xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
"LSASS Exploit xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

I am aware that I can turn off the announcement of Avast! stopping this activity. I am also aware that I'm NOT infected with anything dodgy and this is in fact an attempt from the outside world to get at me. Very happy that Avast! is stopping it BUT....... How can I stop the attempts?

I've googled the subject and not found all that much. I've also searched the MS KB - the attempts are BlasterWorm and Lasser worm related. Ran the malicious software removal tool - Nothing found. It does say I can disable DCOM in the registry - Will I (As an XP Home SP2 user with no networking other than ADSL BB Modem) NEED DCOM on?

Hope you can help or give your inputs - will be greatly appreciated :)

ALSO...... I'm using Kerio firewall - on a 30-day trial atm, is the full version worth the money over the free version?

Patch Windows bang up to date, and spend a few quid on an ADSL router. Your browsing will be safe and trouble free (providing you use a little common sense with your surfing).

www.symantec.com - try there for removal tools/scanners of Blaster/Lasser worms, because the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool hasn't always been so accurate in my experience (day-to-day as an ICT Technician).

Aside from that; Otacon's advice is sound.
