Avatar 3 - Fire and Ash (2025)

Watched this last night and its a 3/10 for me.
Visually its utterly stunning as expected but in terms of a story there was nothing here for me.

Felt too much like the 2nd film to be honest and boy oh boy was it loooongggg, much too long!

Just back and I thought it was good and enjoyed it. Can see why people say it was too long which I personally don't mind if it helps the story along. Which brings me to my slight criticism is it's not new or rather a new storyline and as people have mentioned it's basically a direct continuation of the 2nd which again I don't personally mind. Some brilliant performances and some breathtaking sequences. Definitely recommend it to die hard Avatar fans. 7/10 for me.

I'm going to see this later in the week via 2DX, I don't get on with 3D but I've heard some very good feedback regarding 2DX/screen X.

You reckon ScreenX is worth it?

I remember watching one of the Spiderman films a couple years ago in ScreenX, but felt a bit of a gimmick to me IMO. Just didn't really add much to the experience at least for me.

That being said, I'm guessing it depends on the film. Visually, Avatar is on a different level compared to something like Spiderman, so it could be quite good on a format like ScreenX.

Going to see it in a couple of days, will let you know after but I'm waiting on my sister. She's helping with a new grandkid and we've had to reshuffle times more than once!

I'd say it absolutely depends on the movie, I've only got second hand experiences but for the cost of £20 a ticket I'm happy to give it a shot over a standard showing. That's online via The Gate in Newcastle for me, forget the bloody cinema company as I'm sure they've changed more than once over the years.

I know people that saw showings of The Matrix where it blew their minds, and as you mention a big modern visual spectacle like an Avatar movie should fit the bill moreso imo.

Same formula but very enjoyable, especially in 3d IMAX. I'm glad I didn't watch this at home first time round. I'd happily watch it at the cinema again.

@Nitefly - are you going to watch it? If so please share your opinion on it. I watched it twice now but didn't go for the 3D experience. Still brilliant and visually stunning. It's more of the same so for those that didn't like the last your going to be disappointed. Certain scenes were very emotional and tugged on the audience's emotional investment

Yup booked in for New Year’s Eve :)

Going for the fancy new ‘big’ screen in 3D at my local Vue.

I’d suggest that anyone looking into seeing it at one of these screens this week does try booking in advance as there were surprisingly few seats when I checked… had to find a viewing that didn’t have only bad seats remaining!

My experience with IMAX screens is a bit mixed… I like how big the are and the audio is amazing but the screens themselves can be a bit old and tatty etc. So giving this new screen a whirl and hoping for the best!

I've tried watching films in 3D in the past, but I wear glasses, so the 3D experience has always been bit pants for me if I'm honest. Having to wear the 3D glasses on top of my normal glasses is annoying and uncomfortable

I don't doubt a film like Avatar would be spectacular in 3D though.

The glasses are better/bigger than they used to be and I find fit OK over normal glasses nowadays.

Ymmv of course :)

You can buy these clip on 3D glasses now. Where the 3D lens go over your own frame and lens, making it much more comfortable and practical.

Took the kids to see this last night. One kid enjoyed it, the other, like me, thought it was far too long and far too similar to the last one. Looked good, but not sure 3D added much. Guess I'll never find out, as I'm never sitting through that again.

5/10

Bit of an oddball movie imo, it almost feels like it makes the finale in the second movie a mid movie event, and this was a continuation going into the proper ending. Just felt like far too much of the same and they had Eywa in again at the end as a call-back to the first movie for all the creatures making up the cavalry yet again. Apparently it takes 3 of them connected to Eywa while begging to get their deity to care about "her children".

Of course it'll make stupid money as always.

James Cameron says there still 2 more in the pipe depending on the profit figures and popularity.
they already stated that within the first 72 hours of it showing it made back 86% of it 400m budget globally, as of December 28 it made 760m globally and is on track to pass the 1 billion mark. so there good chance of number 4 happening. also i believe a lot of number 4 has already been shot, as there was talk when number 3 was filming that 3 & 4 were being shot back to back.

I managed to see it in Dolby Vision 3D in Leicester Sq, it's visually very impressive and the sound was great too. I very much enjoyed the film too, much better than the previous film I thought plus Varang was a good new character.
