Evening all.

Picked up Avatar on Blu-ray today and just finished watching.

For any of those wondering how the Blu-ray experience is, well, its outstanding. On par if even exceeding the experience provided by The Dark Knight.

Very very happy with my purchase and loving the film even after a 4th watch (3 times previous in the cinema).

So any one sitting on the fence, don't be, go buy it, NOW !

Im hopefully picking it up on Blu-ray tomorrow, never seen it in the cinema so im looking forward to it.

Tbh I'm disappointed its in 1.78:1. I know JC prefers the full height for 'immersion' and what have you, but personally I'm so used to scope films on my projector 1.78:1 looks weird and almost constrained. I'd also be very annoyed if I had saved enough for my planned anamorphic setup to be stuck with a 1.78:1 presentation.

EDIT: I understand that the 3d scope presentation was 'cropped' from the 1.78:1 source. But tbh I can't believe that, I can't see for one second how he cropped a 2.35:1 frame from this.......

Bluray resized to 1280x720 for out laptop viewers.

In the cinema I swear you could see his entire shoulder-breadth and some more.

Well thats me avoiding then as The Dark Knight was the most over rated POS Ive watched in years...

I was really impressed by how it looked on my 32" 1080p TV, but was a little disappointed it had zero in the way of extras with it, I guess they'll be on the extended edition.

Really? Over rating aside as the hype does get out of hand, I would be genuinely interested to hear why, I thought it was a good action movie with a great performance from ledger.

Sorry for derailing the thread.

Yeah, in November there's going to be a special extended edition. Only extra bit I know of so far is an extended sex scene but it's not something I really care for lol, especially since it's CGI and between aliens.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment today announced that James Cameron's AVATAR 2D flew off shelves to become the fastest-selling Blu-ray of all time after just four days in U.S, and Canadian stores. Excluding rental sales, it sold 2.7 million Blu-ray units in North America, shredding Warner Bros' The Dark Knight's Blu-ray sales record of 2.5 million units total. That means Avatar 2D in 4 days beat what Dark Knight did over 1 1/2 years. Retail sales of both AVATAR 2D's Blu-ray and DVD discs have exceeded 6.7 million units since its launch last Thursday, on pace to be the best-elling title in recent history.

Have the choice of watching it on my 32" 1080p lcd telly downstairs, or on 24" benq fp241w on the pc in my room. Had this monitor for 3 years and aside from gaming, im getting a lot more use from it now with the advent of blu-ray, never really liked watching standard dvd's on pc.

Didn't get to see this in the cinema and just bought on blu-ray. Will be watching tomorrow night when I'm more awake!! Will probably go see it in the summer when it's re-released in the cinema.

Just finished watching it a few minutes ago, I was really blow away with the image and also with the sound, it was stunning through my Onkyo AV, I couldn't help replaying some parts :D

Got mine today - not watched the blu-ray yet but briefly checked out the DVD. The DVD looked easily one of the best DVD PQ I have seen in a long time so it seems James Cameron made sure all the disc space was spent on ensuring good PQ and AQ - so if that's anything to go by I should be really impressed when I watch the blu-ray later this week too.
