Avatars and titles

I know.. another thread about avatars. It's probably been answered before but i'm too lazy to search for it. Personally I like the avatars of mobsters and the hierachy system etc. however there's something thats always bugged me.. the avatars and titles dont seem to match well e.g. Silvio is Tony's Consigliere, Tony is the Boss or Streetboss and not a mobster, depending when in the timeline you want to go from. Moltisanti I suppose you could have as a Soldato but later on would be a Capo like Paulie..

Its not an issue in anyway, just something that bugs me whenever I see the avatars and the titles underneath!

Not everyone will be happy with the inability to have your own avatars, personally I like the idea of having a structure, keeps things more uniform and gets away from any "unsavoury" images etc. considering this is a family friendly forum etc. what gripes me is the titles and avatars not matching :p

Because it's a bug in the new version of the forum and has been posted multiple times in the new forum thread. Don't even try and fix it at the moment, you won't be able to.

The new avatar and rank set that's been active for a mere ten hours is far more accurate than it was before. We had multiple avatars that were totally in the wrong order, Sil above Tony, titles were wrong, they were completely incomprehensible. If you look at the entire new set here, you can see that they're a far better match. They'll never be perfect, that's not possible but they're a huge improvement.

There are fifteen different avatars (not including the mod team, shop staff, vendors and suspended/banned members), no, everyone does not just look the same. Sorry but having your own will never be an option.
 
Perhaps I can elaborate on Feek’s post, as I created them.

We started with the Corleone family hierarchy as a template, which is why you see low-level members as Mary Corleone.

To ensure we kept a consistent theme we diverted a bit away from that slightly. For instance, Fredo Corleone is technically an underboss whereas we’ve typically used Robert De Niro from Heat as that particular rank… so we bumped Fredo off to the vendor reps.

We then thought about how we could include some of the historical avatars such as Tony Soprano and Tommy (Pesci) in a logical way, so we came up with a set of Goodfellas avatars and The Sopranos avatars.

In both instances, we kept the hierarchy within those sub sets so you wouldn’t have Paulie Walnuts above Tony Soprano etc

Then came the issue of the rank groups… previously the titles were gibberish or made little sense so we tried to condense them down to 3 main groups: associate, soldier (soldato) and capo (caporegime)

Hagan was a consigliere in the godfather series but not a full blooded italian so we kept that as the highest non-appointment rank but included two new higher level ranks (Sal) and (Clemenza) as these were Vito’s capos and full blooded made-men.

The only avatar that wasn’t changed was the Godfather, for obvious reasons. It didn’t feel right to alter it.
 
Thanks @EVH, that's a better explanation than mine.

One other thing we did was to remove the one (I think it was just one) remaining real life gangster from the avatars which never really sat well with us, leaving them all as actors.

I mean if we want to be picky, Paulie has done a stretch in the can, I believe he himself was a gangster (small time) before finding his career in acting!.

P.S Please don't remove Paulie Walnuts :p

The discussion about avatars started around this post, went on to post 146ish in that thread and is worth a read.
 
We went through sooooo many alternate versions, combinations and tweaks.
