Average cost - licence + gear

You trust your brains to a £35 lid?

It was cheap, and a gamble, and although it wasn't a system model, I wouldn't do it again. My Nolan N87 is far better and I'm more confident riding with it. Makes me wonder what to do with my Duchinni now because it's probably not a very safe 'spare'.

Find a an empty car park, throw it up as hard, as you can... run away and see what happens. :D

Tried J&S ( https://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/ ) ? If they have a store local to you it's worth popping in, makes trying things on much easier to work out what sort of things fit and are comfortable for you etc. You don't have to buy from them, can just try stuff on then buy elsewhere online if cheaper, to be honest, same goes for any physical local store really.
Thanks. It does seem like my option for helmets are either a really basic helmet for £150 or top of the range £300+.
would the lack of pinlock give me any problems during my DAS?

I thought all helmets had to pass a certain EU safety standard? Meaning a £30 lid is similar to a £300 lid.

For example, this £21 helmet comes with all the features (pinlock, removable lining) and Sharp safety rating (4/5) as my £250 Shoei - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Agrius-Ra...76790420?&clk_rvr_id=1446943972232&rmvSB=true

Similar to a £300 lid, but not of a more granular safety standard, which is why this exists: https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/

That's not the same as ECE 22.05, which is the standard you may (or may not) be referring to.

Here's a quick pic of a helmet you can get for £100-150, its a Shark S700.

I'm lucky to be alive, as I went up in the air with the bike... Just don't spend less than £100 on a lid.

Not too sure what you're trying to say but the helmet I linked has a 4/5 Sharp rating and ECE 22.05 as I mentioned in my previous comment.
Oh. I read the comment that said "a certain eu safety standard", not mentioning Sharp or ECE. :)

Yeah my bad with the wording.

Either way, I was pretty impressed for a £21 helmet. Might get one as a spare for any pillions I take.

No worries, with you now! :)

Yeah it's very impressive. The only thing that worries me about eBay is authenticity and fit, but that could be mitigated by shopping around and seeing if prices and stuff roughly match.

Pinlock is nice to have, but to be honest on brand new visors the antifog layer ttreatment works ok - for a while. Neither is going to be a problem for a DAS, it's nice to have not at all obligatory stuff!

I'd recommend something like a Nolan N87 which goes for 150/200 depending on graphics, nice helmet with a pinlock, comes in 3XL sizing, just use the free returns from Sportsbikeshop for example.
Tried another Nolan helmet that said 3XL but it felt like it was falling off and was generally uncomfrotable

https://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.s...oducts/Scorpion-Exo-510-Air-Guard-Helmet-0010 - pinlock, built-in sun visor thing that flicks down, vents up the yazoo, £167 and far from basic. Any good? :)

Tried a scorpion helmet in 3XL and same deal, doesn't fit.

Guess beggars can't be choosers. Will pick up the HJC sometime this week. Now its time to find size 13 boots:(. Anyone know of companies that sell boots that are reasonably wide? All the ones of tried have all been too narrow.

I'll see if can visit one. Thanks
