Think idle temps do have a part to play, as they are indicative of the long term thermal load placed on the components. Agree that full load temps are of more relevance, but then, when is a rig ever at full sustained load?? unless you're benching of course. It's kinda like saying I need it to be stable doing something I will only ever do to see if it's stable doing that thing.
Even during gaming a rig never gets up to anything like full load.
