Average speed check - M1 Wakefield

I was on the M1 today near Wakefield, and I only noticed I'd entered an average speed check zone in the roadworks when I saw the first speed camera - I was doing 62mph

All the signs had been blown over with the high winds, and it was before going in to the bit with the cones, so it wasn't obvious that there were roadworks.

I was travelling at the same speed as the rest of the motorway, and obviously as everyone else realised we all slowed down to 50mph

Will I be ok, or am I likely to get done? Should I report the matter to the Police, or am I more likely to get done!?

Thanks

It's the highway agency's responsibility to display correct signs. As long as you can prove that the signs weren't there or weren't visible, you're fine. If as you say the rest of the motorway was travelling at that speed, it's likely that multiple people will get "done", meaning that stories should corroborate.

i'd say if you averaged above 50 then you will get done :/ . defo worth appealing if the signs were down but that big ass yellow camera is hard to miss tho :D . if i was doing 60 at the camera i would have just drove a bit slower than 50 through the rest, or you're asking for trouble.

You'll be fine. Trucks sit on their 56mph limiters without a problem through these, and an indicated 62 won't be far off that in reality.

Cheers for the advice, not sure if I should make the call to the Police - therefore admitting liability, or sit it out and hope that they remember the windy day and let me off!
