Hi

For those of you using AVG it appears the Dec 1st cut off point is not too far off for those who still on 8.5, Just did a clean installation of AVG 9 (not upgrade) and can see immediately a hit on my system (apparently it cache scan the drives in the first instance) that why your HD is working OT, does this and eventually settles down once it built up this scan.

My problems posted here was narrowed down to using AVG 9 :(. Might just switched to another AV to avoid these issues.

I can see there quite a lot of useful free prog listed in the sticky, might give Avast a try , anyone know if this is a good choice or have better suggestions. Running it on home pc and no server so nothing fancy.

Cheers

Can't be any worse than the others. The only complaint I have heard is it is a little slow at scanning. Set it to do it after you are in bed and who cares? :)

Worth a try.

I gave up on AVG at version 8.0, such a resource hog compared with 7.x. Initially I switched to Avast which is lightweight fast and just fine, and now I use Microsofts Security Essentials and it seems fine.

AVG 8 was just grabbing the cpu and hogging it like crazy, even web browsing was a nightmare.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, thats what I say.
