AVG - is not free? good alternative?

I was using this recently when fixing my brother's PC. It found a lot of different viruses, but it couldn't remove them.

I then tried Avast, and it got rid of all the viruses. I'd recommend Avast.
 
I used to be an AVG fanboy for years... I then tried Avast after my computer got heavily infected about 3 years ago!.. never looked back!..
 
I used Avast in the past but AVG was said to be better so I have been using it for a while. However, last week a group of Trojans arrived and got to thinking that this was dangerous so I am moving to a paid program, Kaspersky Internet Security which does the lot. I am on my free 1 month trial and nothing has gone wrong... yet...

I think it may well be safer to have AV, Firewall etc in one package that work together even though the Router protects via NATS.
 
Been using NOD32 for about 4 years now on my main PC and AVG FREE EDITION 7.5 on my LAN PCs .

Never had a virus in all *** years I have used PCs on the NOD32 Machine or the AVG ones... EVER!

I tried AVAST 2 weeks ago, and thought Id try it and I got hit with my first ever virus! - sweet... I was actually chuffed. Sure, I have had viruses hit me plenty of times before, but never have I had to work at removing it before.

Anyway, gone back to NOD32 now and all is well again.

Each to their own.
