hi folks,
I decided to give win 7 beta a try.
first impressions, super! everything seemed to work ok.
however, I installed avg anti virus 8, left everything on default, did a virus scan.
showed 68 low level threats (cookies) 6 trojans, 1 virus which I treated.I was using zone alarm on win xp before, which never showed up any viruses.
win 7 is a clean install (yes genuine) on a new drive.viruses were on both drives.
Now things have gone screwy!
cant download from internet + some web pages take ages to open or not at all, internet explorer keeps telling me my search provider has been changed from default and when I try to change it, options are greyed out, streaming from the net is very hit and miss.
I've notified microsoft and contacted avg (that being the point of a beta),but was just wondering if anyone had similar faults?
P.S.before running virus check internet worked like a dream.

Dont use AVG! Get a decent AV. Avast is a much better free option. They probably were not even virus's AVG just giving a false alarm.

probably right. installed avg trial as it was an option given on win 7 web page.
problem is now, getting win 7 back to how it was.I'm not that up on virus software. maybe I'll try system restore see if that helps.

I installed AVG on my fresh W7 beta install and have had no problems. While it is possible they are false alarms... hmm it's kinda weird it should find that many. Were they on the primary drive? Did you plug in any USB sticks etc that could have compromised the system?

just installed win7, installed a few missing drivers, tried a few thing out in win 7,browesd a few web pages then installed avg.

I tried out AVG on W7 and it wasn't a good experience.
Basically slowed everything down and broke the internet connection.

Pages would fail to load and windows would try to diagnose a problem.
Got old real fast.

Disabling the web security in AVG would get the browser working again.

AVG claim that it works perfectly with W7, it doesn't.

you should never install AVG or Zonealarm

Zonealarm basically is a virus..
-causes instability
-creates problems from absolutely nowhere

still getting nowere fast trying to rectify problems.
my beta has been activated so if I do a clean re-install will I have any problems from ms using the same install key?
