AVG Trojan warning

AVG full version keeps giving me a Trojan 'detected on opening' warning in the following file:

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{BIC538C0-CBA3-4434-A006-53A338B37653}\RP556\A0111338.dll

Healing the infection does nothing; is it safe to manually delete this file? I'm unsure of its' significance.

To my knowledge anything stored in System Volume Information is to do with System Restore. Someome may be able to clarify but I would consider turning it off and on again to wipe any files from within.

Does it just give a generic description? Sometimes you can get false positives - try uploading the dll file here and see what another AV thinks about it http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

Yes , your right , System Restore will keep virus's etc even after your Anti-virus has deleted it from your Pc .Turn it off , then turn it on again .
I have mine turned OFF all the time , I have never used the system restore facility in all years I've used XP .

Turn it off and just get acronis for your back-ups.

Its going free at the moment.

As regards the OP, if you use something like regscrubxp it will check for all the dodgy registry files www.sofotex.com/RegScrubXP-download_L7528.html

Also have you tried updating your AVG and scanning it again?
