I am trying to burn a .avi file to DVD and the program I am using is saying that it is 5gb and so won't let me burn to a 4.8gb DVD...Now the file is showing in it's properties that it is 701mb so why is it saying it's 5gb??
I am using Goya Easy Media
If I can't get it working can someone recommend me a program that will allow
me to burn .avi to DVD without any problems... Ideally I would like the program to be free :P
thanks

Because I assume like nero it is going to convert the file on the fly from .avi to .mpeg(4 I presume to play in a dvd player).

This conversion process is not only terribly inefficient, it is simply terrible. THe rez, pixellation will be awful and the colours will be all over the place.

There are many free programs such as "super" that will convert from virtually any file format to another for free. Be warned though, with avi files they tend to be the best that can be gotten out of a movie/show into a small file heavily compressed. They are not great candidates for re-encoding.

Check any settings in your DVD program, it may be taking the 700mb file and encoding it as a bigger file. There should be a setting to adjust the quality/compression.

Free-wise, a google showed me this, which is also mirrored on Afterdawn so it should be legit.

If it were an ordinary avi file you'd generated yourself, you could have used Windows DVD Maker already on your PC, but I'm guessing it isn't...

I find convertx to dvd to be the best program about for burning movies, AVS Video Converter 6 for converting and burning mkv, avi etc to bluray.

Those programs above look good but i dont want to be paying really as most of the time i play my files through hard drive/usb but i need to burn a couple to dvds.
Anyone used DVD Flick?? I have been recommended that and then once DVD Flick has done its thing i use ImgBurn... So anyone have any experiences with Dvd Flick or ImgBurn??

DVD Flick will do this for you...

If you simply want to burn the AVI file onto a DVD so that it remains as an AVI, simply use any burning program and choose to burn as a "data" DVD...

Well i used DVD Flick and ImgBurn and it worked great but took a long time but i suppose that is to be expected using my laptop which i hope to be replacing soon once i can decide which cpu to go for... :D
