.avi files on 360

I've got some .avi files that I'd like to play through my 360 but obviously that files extension isn't supported. Is there an easy way to do this or can someone recommend a program that can convert them to .wma or .wmp? The machine is only running xp home so transcode360 that I've heard about won't work.
