.avi issue?

When I try to play a video clip that is in .avi format it comes up as if it's playing music. The picture is the music animations that you have in Windows media when you play a music file. Anyway the sound works fine but I can't get any picture apart from that. Missing a codec? doesn't give me any error.

Most likely your missing a codec.

just use ffdshow.

Cheers ,I had a few .avi's that wouldn't play either , but noticed on the site there is two versions . I'm just using a AMD2.8 with a 128mb graphics card , What version do I use ??

Use VLC

Download and use http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ it is by far the best video player available, it plays almost every type of video and is very simple to use.
