avi to mp4

can anyone tell me the best application to convert avi to mp4.

Also are there any free applications out there that will do this?

winavi is pretty good, have used a few times for my ipod, dont know of any free tho,
clonedvd mobile is very good if u got original dvd.

it's free, plus it'll queue up files for batch conversion, really easy to use too.
