AVIs

dont have vista 64, but have you tried VLC or maybe just accept the fact that no single player can play everything although vlc comes close?

media player classic is the best player, hands down

download vista codec package (only need 32bit if you don't plan using media centre at all)

they're all on www.codecs.com

if any don't play, then install ffdshow or vista codec package

your pc doesn't have the codecs to play them, that's the 'problem' ffdshow is tiny too :)

CoreAVC, CoreAAC and AC3 Filter.

CoreAVC is for MPEG4-AVC which you won't find in ther AVI container...

if any don't play, then install ffdshow or vista codec package

MPC Home Cinema uses the same decoder internally so if it won't play somethng nor will ffdshow.

install vista codec pack and x64 component tools.

Then use what ever player you like.

The tools will also allow previews in explorer.

Actually it's the Operating system that doesn't have the codecs. And MS deliberatly don't include them through some very dodgy back dealing (wait till trusted computing comes in!).

Other OS' don't have them due to licensing, although they can be installed from locations not part of the US (World IP police)
