-edit- I've not had a full licence 5 years, I've had a provisional close to 10 really. I kept putting it off after driving for abit.

I was using compare websites, then tried Aviva direct and they offered me a better price, honestly I don't think the 5 year thing made that much difference but I should do another quote just to check.

Compare website, for personal cover fully comp was coming to to
1600, although a week ago I was getting 1450 / 1500 when checking. Only quote me happy was offering a quote with 250 excess everyone else offered £3000.

Aviva offered £250 also iirc, I ended up putting 5 years due to how the website was worded, I actually could have put 10. Took business insurance for employers use instead of personal as I was advised to do so on the phone. Of course this is still at 0NCB I use my car to drive to airports and such.

I also asked them to explain the wording in the screenshot, they said they are interested in how long I've been driving not how long I've had a full licence.

Business Cover
£1520 was without eu cover, and a car. £1586 with eu/car also getting £80 cash back via quidco.

I know its a lot of money, but I've already done it. Still welcome to any comments if people think I managed ok or not since its my first car. I am 27 though, been very lazy re driving. I just dislike how it looks on my policy with the 5 year part, seems to invalidate the whole thing.

Indeed, I'm 28 and paid around 400 for my remapped civic this year - even if my 5 years ncb halved the cost it'd still be half your quote - something seems very odd

Well i did say i had 0years NCB, and the comment about the provisional in the subject was a bit of a give away.

But no i've not been driving 5 years, eg with a full licence. But i've technically had a provisional 10 years.

I just didn't like how it said 5 years on my policy, although the wording you can see in the screen shot clearly tells you provisional start date and I even called up to check.

Neither do I, if your provisional start date is 5years ago how could you possibly have justified entering 10 years......and if you've answered the question given exactly as asked I dont see the issue?

Ok, I was told by the company themselves that its ok, so honestly there isn't a problem. I didn't enter the wrong number, I could have put 10 but I thought 5 was more reasonable as I couldn't actually recall the date just know it was early in college.

I just didn't like how the policy reads, UK Full Held for 5 years. (when in my head its less than 7days really) But I guess its fine.

Got my first provisional around when I left school, had it replaced twice at different points due to losing it. I don't recall the actual date so 5 years was just a comfortable number.

Ok fair enough, personally id have out the earliest date I knew was possibly correct in and kept proof I answered the correct question but I doubt its an issue....it still seems a massive price for the car though, are you doing 30k business or something?

I put 15k, although I kinda worked out it could be up to 26k but that's assuming once a week when sometimes it can be three weeks without a trip.

Honestly the prices and the options on any of the compare sites were useless compared to this price. I may of been able to find one for 1400 if I waited, as the prices all went up in the past two weeks. Quotes that have expired on the same model car were much cheaper before.

You should see the quotes if I was 18, looking at around £3000 with a massive excess.

2.2 for a new driver is a little bit more than they like.

Id expect it to be more with no driving experience and no ncb but something like 800 to 1k seems more in line which would be double what I pay. Add 100% for zero ncb or experience, but even then my map must add 50 quid or so to my own policy

I take it you tried admiral etc and have no dodgy driving convictions?

Engine size is largely irrelevant its still only got 140bhp as standard, same as the 1.8 petrol

Not quite sure I want to find a cheaper one at this point, as I've done it now. Plus its only Aviva which seem to say provisional start date!

I did search loads in the weeks coming up to passing / buying the car. Then pretty much as I needed the insurance all the quotes seem to jump up. But still never saw any quotes around £1000 unless I named my brother on the insurance, which legally i can't do as he hasn't lived in the UK for 7 years.

Out of interest I've just re run mine through but changed my experience to zero years, taken the mrs off, removed the map and set ti zero ncb with an overall excess of 300 quid and using 15k - I get a £900 quote without even adding on any women / going direct

Your postcode cant make THAT much of a difference surely ? Mine is hardly a great one

What's this 7 year thing? I've never read that

Could be the car, this one is same spec / age / mileage as mine, reg ov07pzz stolen off autotrader
Mainly did personal quotes which all came out the same price or there abouts with much worse excess. Business was a last second change, as it didn't effect price really.
