We've been with Pipex for over 2 years now and never really had much of a problem, nothing out of the ordinary.

However, recent problems with the phone meant that it was cut off and my mum had to ring up and change the bill into her name. Couple of days later the internet goes out and she rings htem up and tells them.

They say it'll take a couple of weeks to come back on as they'll have to start from scratch (even though the bill has always been in her name).

So my mum says na thats ok can get it from somewhere else quicker and he says ok if you give me your email address and we'll email you "the details" within 72 hours. So she says well how am I sposed to do that seein as you cut my internet off, but concedes and says she'll check next door.

So lo and behold no email in 72 hours. I ring Tiscali up couple of days later to be told I need the MAC code even though its been cancelled for a while now. So I ring Pipex and get put on hold for 5 minutes then hung up on. Ring them back and after 15 minutes on hold they tell me they'll email me with the MAC code within 72 hours. Been over a week now and no code. Got an email from them telling me that cancellations can only be dealt with over the phone. Great.

So gona ring them tomorrow and terll them I'm not putting up with this. See what they say. Anybody know what I can do to sort them out?

Your ADSL would get ceased when the voice service was cut off, and changing the name would just make it worse.
Pipex can't generate a MAC for a circuit they no longer own, and an activation will take as long with them as anyone else (and cost an activation fee, whether it's spread over a year or whatever).

In theory, if it's been ceased you should be able to sign up with anyone without needing a MAC but it's possible that either BTw haven't caught up that there's no ADSL, or Pipex have ordered an activation. The only thing you can do is start again, whether it's with Pipex or someone else.

Though if it means you can't go with Tiscali for now that's no bad thing - it'll give you time to consider a better ISP.

Hold on a minute.

You're telling people to avoid Pipex, and attempting to migrate to Tiscali? I think tolien is right on the mark; you might want to take advantage of this delay to re-evaluate ;)

Oh man.

I left Tiscali in June after being on em about 5 years, they have an FUP, and recently started traffic shaping etc... if you download on Tiscali you've had it, as they only allow about 10-20k a second, and it doesn't matter if your on 8mb MAX, thats all you get, id avoid like the plague, thats why i got out.

FUP's peak hrs are from 6pm-11pm everynight, so if you download to much, or even just browse to much during those hrs you get an FUP warning, get 3x and you get put on the bad boy pipe where your speeds are cut even more, so if your already getting 20k on the normal pipe, god help you on the bad boy pipe. :(

true.

But I will take the advice on tiscali, need a pretty cheap ISP just for my mum when I'm at uni.

I went to AOL, yes i can probably imagine the 'oh no's', but suprisingly AOL are fine, ive heard all the stories, which is why ive never bothered with them in the past, but theres absolutely nothing wrong with em at all, no FUP, 100% Unlimited, spot on speeds, always get my full download speeds whatever time of day or night, and you don't have to use any of the software, another reason why i kept away, ive downloaded absolutely stacks, must be in hundreds of gigs by now, and yet its still going strong. :)
