My AvP came yesterday, ive just installed and when i launch with dx11 it get the intro movie then it just cuts to the desktop with the program has closed message. it works with dx9 but ive read it looks nowhere near as nice, is there a way around this problem? im on a i7 920 with a 4890 gfx card, using the lastest drivers, 10.2 i think it is.

Have not had this problem myself, but have read people have solved it by going back to the 9.12 drivers.

Even though his 4890 doesn't use directx 11, it should still use directx 10 when running the game with the directx 11 version

Yeh, if you have the hardware in the first place. The 4890 can't do DX11.

i know my card dont support dx11 but there isnt a option for dx10 and they have said that to get the dx10 features you have to run dx11. im downloading the old drivers now so will try that.

The difference between 9 and 10 is minimal. The amount of problems people are having with the 10/11 renderer, you may as well save yourself the bother and enjoy it at 9.

Make sure you update your direct x runtime to the latest version (feb redist) as well to make sure you dont get any problems

Its surprising that after all the other threads on this, some people still don't realise that the game runs in DX10 mode if you use the DX11 launcher... and the Default launcher runs that!!!! So no need for an ATI 5xxx card to use the DX11 launcher, you just wont get the tessalation etc that the DX11 lanucher can use IF you have an ATI 5xxx card :(

Glad you got it sorted with the drivers elh_2009 :)

thanks.

tried 9.12 with dx11 and i have 5770 gfx card and it just goes straight back to desktop with me too.
dx11 is upto date, running win 7 64bit, done the sound trick, tried everything on normal like it suggests and still have the same crap, as soon as the intro where the pred ship blows up the marine one, it goes straight back to desktop.
dx9 version works but i still have to knock off v-sync to get rid of the mouse lag and i hate having v-sync off, vsync off on avp is especially bad.
basically a shoody console port to pc, much like dead space was and more recently, mass effect 2

The single player campaigns crash on launch for me in DX10 so I'm using DX9, but for some reason the multiplayer modes work in DX10.

Aside from all that, love the game. It's not very often I get so addicted to the online modes in an FPS.

Having no problems at all so fart but then again i have a 5870 :p

Although so far its so far down on my list its practicaly toe to toe with Far Cry 2, which is bad.

Turn off Vsync and mouse smoothing and that sorts the problems in most cases. It worked for me anyway. :)

As said if you don't have a DX11 card it will still run a DX10 mode which is nicer looking than the DX9 version, but without tessellation.
