I seriously hope this game is not associated with steam like modern warfare 2 was that would be totaly crap IMO? I sure hope its on its own like Stalker call of pripyat was.

Steam is just a pain sometimes its only good for HL2 and L4D.

Thanks :)

Mwahahahah. You've had it because it is exactly the same as MW2 in terms of Steam linkage.

Either way AvP is **** by all accounts so you're probably just best off cancelling the preorder and never having any trouble at all.

Well mixed replys here but your not getting the point.

HL2 and L4D got them both and love them, no doubt. When i got MW2 i was suprised with its steam linkage. No shock like i just thought it would be just like MW1 by its self?

Thing is though i want this game so its no problem, its looks fantastic. I was exaggerting there il be honest. Heat of the moment so lets not get carried away ay :o Just prefere games like that to have no link at all to steam but it does have its advantages (auto update ect).

Only wanted to know thats all just have to find out. ;)

And the repeat d/ls, no CD in the drive, e-peen points for Steam screenshot threads, integrated community - since pretty much everyone has Steam for one reason or another, I can't really think of any downsides.

Why do you prefer games that have no link to Steam?

As far as I can see, you like the auto-update feature but have not stated anything negative about it. Or am I missing something?

Not a fan of steam personally. But i'll be fair and say it does indeed have its plus points

Advantages
Being able to download a game as many times as you like (Apple pay attention)
Access to your games anywhere in world
Saves your saves to your profile for some games
Easy to copy your game folders between computers
Good community & friends list
No CD (personally using the CD doesn't bother me)
Good sales
Steam Cloud

Disadvantages
Don't like being forced to use programs
More rubbish running in the background
Another account you have to remember, especially when you need to sign into GFWL as well
Potential hacking (I know recovery etc but it is a pain)
HAVE to have an internet connection the first time you run a game
'We're sorry but the steam servers are too buy at the moment, please try again later'
Inflated prices & regional price hikes even though they make far more money than retail
Anti cheat rubbish that doesn't work
Killing the second hand market
Personal preference but I really dislike auto update
Privacy

Of course, all the big publishing houses will launch their own content delivery networks and stop licensing games to steam we'll all need dozens of sodding different accounts etc.

Frankly, they should all group together and pay a 3rd party to sort it all. No squabbles about who runs it, no power struggles and they all make more money and we only have one content delivery network.

In summary, Steam has it's advantages but it is still flawed and personally I would prefer to live with out it.

Regarding the rubbish in the background comment, well it uses no CPU time and uses 37MB of RAM plus it's immensely useful to get matches with friends going especially on team games like left 4 dead where it's essential to have a system like steam to join games and lobbies and communicate between games.

I agree sometimes it's annoying when the steam update servers are slow or not online but those times are not common and as for cheating, well that's what you get for playing CS with noobs!

There are no privacy concerns with STEAM, where did you get this issue from? verify your email address and use a secure password and your account is pretty safe indeed, as safe as any other online account.

Also, set your apps to autologin on your PC, sure it's an issue if you share a PC with someone else but that's not STEAMs fault.

Some game prices may be higher than retail but at the same time there are immense deals to be had especially when you look at the last few weeks of impressive deals running on from XMAS. When there are deals on STEAM there are epic bundle deals instead of just one game going for cheap at an etailer.

Background - Might be personal then this one, I hate having unnecessary programs running, only thing I have running in windows is CCC and that's against my will.

Privacy - I meant Steam monitoring what you do and selling the information. Bothers some, not others.

When it goes down you cant play your games that you paid for.....ie now

You can turn auto update off for each steam game ;)
