Hello Guys

iv'e encounted a problem with my sound, whilst i was on the internet yesterday the blue screen of death appeared, with something like IRQ Blah blah Blah.

My computer restarted as it goes into the welcome screen a error appears explaining that System32/avrt.dll is either corrupted or is not working.

when you get into windows vista 32bit. the sound icon in the tray has an X .

Ok the things iv'e tried.
.update/reinstall sound drivers, no luck
.update windows media player 11, however i cannot seem to find uninstall.
.replaced the existing avrt.dll file from a downloaded dll file
.in start>typed services and made sure that Windows Audio was set to Automatic, however when i try and run start in properties an error appears.

Any advice or help would be great.

Thanks

David

Try setting ownership to yourself on the downloaded file, this helps apparently. Also look into system file checker.

did you try

1) actually telling it to delete the drivers when you uninstalled the sound card? (not jsut uninstalling the device)
2) download the latest drivers for the sound card from the laptop mfg site
3) if option 2 does not help download the latest drivers from the SOUND CARD's mfg site and install those..

thanks all I can think of...

ill give that a wizz at lunch, iv'e spent most of last nite googling this problem.
it has come apparent that it's a problem with WMP11 becoming corrupt.

Problem with vista that there is no uninstall for WMP11 only system restore.

well i had a wizz at trying system restore, did not work.

looks like the registry is buggered, system keeps hanging.

im thinking a fresh reinstall, what ever file has currupted is being a pain.
