Hi guys,

I have been away from PC gaming for a couple of years now. Only recently returned when I upgraded my PC.

What games would you recommend? I like any genre except RTS. Online or offline I don't really mind - What big releases have I missed?

Cheers

Mass Effect Games
Dragon Age Origins
Fallout 3
GTA IV (although performance quite poor)
L4D2
HL2 Games if you still haven't played them?
Just Cause 2
Empire Total War
Call of Duty Games (upto Modern Warfare 2)
Metro 2033
Fear 2

no RTS?

Mass effect
fallouts
bio shocks
just case 2/red faction guerilla (if you like blowing stuff sky high )
half life 2
L4D
COD 4 and 5 MW2 its up to you really

Off the top of my head, these are some great pc exclusives worth a shot.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series - FPS set in a fictional post Chernobyl disaster russia
The Witcher - action rpg with enough manly antics to straighten the hair on your chest
Crysis - spiritual sequel to Far Cry
Torchlight - great little hack and slash rpg

i guess the big recent one to look at would be bad company 2

For £30, it's not worth it atm because it's basically a broken game, he would get no enjoyment starting off from scratch until the game has matured into an actual game that is enjoyable, balanced and gives new players an actual chance to progress.

How long has it actually been since playing? And here's a few recent games that i liked.

-Mass Effect [2].
-Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
-Half-Life 2 [Episode 1, Episode 2].
-Far Cry 2.
-Bioshock [1-2].
-Call of Duty: Modern Warfare [1-2] Although MW2 doesn't justify it's price.
-Wolfenstein.
-Medal of Honor: Airborne.
-Dirt 2.
-Resident Evil 5.
-Tomb Raider Underworld.
-Call of Duty: World at War.

Why doessn't anybody mention Borderlands any more?
Apart from Just Cause 2 better than any of the other games mentioned above, I find.

I would go for the following games first, in this order:

1. Fallout 3 & Broken Steel expansion.

2. Half Life 2 & Episodes 1 & 2.

3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

4. Left 4 Dead 2.

I haven't listed Crysis as in my opinion it's just a technical benchmark and for me it didn't really have much in the way of ground breaking gameplay. It made me feel empty when I was playing it, there was no excitement or desire to progress to the next area for me, I guess I feel like it was a bit disjointed. Also, there are several ways to play it but I reckon most players go with using the cloak as much as possible, the only problem with this is that you spend most of the game sitting in a bush waiting for your cloaking to recharge.

Spot on.
