Have this mobo and 2gb ram currently and looking for a quick and easy upgrade for the CPU as I would Luke to also move to 4gb ram. Currently have a 2.4gz core duo. Not sure what the best cpu/ram combo would be whilst keeping the motherboard as I'm confused by the various FSB settings.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Hows your current ram arranged? is it two X 1GB sticks?or a single 2GB stick?

You could add this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-086-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813 - if you have two sticks already.

This is the cpu support list - http://www.abit.com.tw/cpu-support-list/mb/intel_975x_aw9d_series.htm

So pick one from here you see on it - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=6&subid=567 - you may have to do a BIOS update - http://www.abit.com.tw/page/ir/moth...EL_NAME=AW9D-MAX&fMTYPE=LGA775&pPRODINFO=BIOS

Have you thought about doing a more modern upgrade? do you have a budget? There maybe a complete CPU/RAM/Motherboard solution i can cook up for you?

Thanks for the reply.

Budget is about £150 and also hoping for a easy upgrade (don't want to dismantle the whole PC).

Currently 2x1gb ram and I've just got windows 7.

The FSB versions of CPUs are confusing and want everything to fit nicely including ram.

Try to find a second hand Q6600 for around £70.

Add a heatsink as I believe the Q*** series intel heatsinks are copper cored to cope with extra heat ( yours maybe fine to use, but not 100%), so find a £20ish aftermarket heatsink and you can overclock the cpu safely.

Add the extra ram to fill all four slots.

Would rather avoid overclocking as results are unknown. Quad core really going to make much difference? My dual core barely makes any difference over a single core.

I was hoping for a fast CPU (3Gz upwards) with 2 x 2gb ram in dual channel.
