Love this guy, follow him emphatically on twitter.

Some serious sense coming out of his mouth, I can see his having a massive effect on anyone with sense come the next generation.

Good to see him talking about Rage running nearly at 30 FPS on Sandybridge alone, and all the good things Microsoft have done for games development this generation that 99% won't see or care about.

I was reading his comments on OpenGL the other month, it made perfect sense and explained why OpenGL has fallen by the wayside.

Years ago ID made Quake engines were the da-facto standard for games, these days the DirectX Unreal Real engines rules the waves so it would be nice to see if ID could bring about another change.

Doom3 was ahead of its time & still looks decent today as does Quake4. PC gamers repaid that with a lot of piracy:(

Carmack is one of the few people responsible for the modern 3D game engine boom which started in 1996 with Quake1 OpenGL+3DFX. Shame ID are now part of Bethesda as that means little PC specific love they will just want a console friendly game engine to sell like Unreal Engine from Epic as its only business to Bethesda.

Great interview, thanks. :) A ton of sense from him as you say. A lot of people that repeatedly sit and whine about the industry could do a lot worse than listen to him, and and actually think about what he's saying.

He's a great guy, and certainly someone that's truly shaped the industry in their time.
