awful sound with sound cards on Windows 10

Hi guys , I have a Asus Xonar Essence STX in the main pc and a Creative X-FI for the laptop. Sound from both was bang on until a couple of weeks ago but now both sound really tinny. Reinstalled Windows on both thinking it may fix it but , the sound remains really bad. Any ideas as pulling my hair out here.

Seems odd that both should stop working after latest Win10 update. Time for new hardware I guess.

Could it be the Bose QC25 Im using?

It appears to be an issue when using headphones that have noise cancelling chip in. Full analogue headphones no issues.

I've ordered some new headphones and a SoundBlaster G6 so will find out.
