I notice that Amazon is offering a free tier now for AWS and EC2. Has anyone ever used it?

I'm more looking at signing up just to play, rather than start a business out of it, but wondered how everyone else has found it.

AWS is very good, frankly.

They've had a free tier for about 2 years now I think. Be careful with resources otherwise you might find yourself with some surprise charges :)

Cheers. How do I do that? Not actually signed up because of that. Will it warm me?

AWS is running a whole bunch of sites that I wouldn't have known were virtulised by just browsing them.

I think the Amazons own webstore runs on AWS so its certainly a class product, we've used it pretty much since it was conceived as its so easy to have a throwaway machine up and running in a moments notice for demo's/tests etc!

You need to sign up with a credit card, and you can set limits as well irc

Cheers. I've got a home web server etc, but just fancy having a play. Don't want to end up with a bill though!

It's good, but I've found it much slower in performance compared to "normal" hosting. The advantage is in its flexibility and the control via APIs.

Compiling Apache on the free tier is just painful.
