a friend has this pc,

i7 920, 6 gig ram, Nvidia 460, 2x 2tb drives, 1x1tb, 128gb ssd, 2x optical drives

not OCed, one exit fan, 80mm, his first AX750, died after 6 months, which was a shock for such a £££ psu, ( 3volt rail dropped)

thing is the unit always pumped out some heat thru the back, even with the case open

whilst the psu was sent away a cheap oem 750wat psu was installed and was very cool in running, very little heat out put!??

the AX750 came back, installed and still pumping out heat, it runs hotter then the oem psu, case open or not?

any ideas? should he be worried?

thats even with the case open, top panel and side...... the ax750 is very warm

the oem 750 watt psu was cool/normal temp, both have 120mm fans

does not explain why the oem 740 watt runs cool, whilst the ax750 runs HOT, with the case side OFF?

The AX750 fan only spins up at certain amount of load, that could be why it just seems warmer as the fan isnt always spinning.

Have you got the fan taking air in from inside or outside the case? If the fan is pointing up then you got an obvious problem, especially with such poor airflow in the case.

seems from the things people have said here, and that pointed me to do some research, the ax fan only spins up under load, heat is a by product of having it so quiet, happy with that

thanks to all for the replys
