AX8 unknown error code on startup

I'm building a kit my brother-in-law bought and the AX8 motherboard worked perfectly first time up but now fails with a code on the LED of 04 and a single repetitive beep. I've tried resetting the BIOS, I've removed the battery and all the power connectors, everything I can think of. 04 is not in the manual. Obviously.

Any ideas anyone?

Could be a memory or chipset problem, you say it worked the first time? did you install any OS's?

No, just checked it was working, booted to a boot CD, I did change the date in the BIOS and disabled the floppy. Changed the boot order to look for the CD drive first instead of the floppy. saved the BIOS, it soft-booted and loaded the boot CD. Then I turned it off. Went to start it again and is now stuck. Won't get past the 04 POST code and just beeps with a two second gap between single beeps.

Is this a "cold boot problem"? If so, does anyone know how to get round it?

I beleive this is a similar problem to the one I had with my AN8. Basically if you tighten the heatsink and/or the motherboard screws too tightly, the board flexes and the memory doesn't make contact with the connectors properly. Try loosening the heatsink a little first (making sure still sufficiently tight for cooling). If that doesnt work try the motherboard screws.

It's gone back to the supplier. I can't be bothered with this.
